Mymensingh City Election
BBC NEWS24 DESK:The first election will be held on Sunday in the electronic voting machine (EVM) system of Mymensingh City Corporation (MCC). Election Commission (EC) has already done all the preparations to complete the elections fairly and peacefully. Election tools were sent to the center at different centers of the city during the bitter weather from Saturday morning.
On this day (May 5th), the voting starts from 8am onwards and will continue without breaks until 4pm. The full voting of the city will be completed using EVM.
In the meantime, Awami League candidate Ikramul Haque Titu has been elected unopposed for Mayor’s post. So on Sunday only the councilor will be held for the post.
Election commissioner (EC) Joint Secretary (Public Relations) SM Asaduzzaman told banglanews that all preparations have been done to prepare for the election in MCC.
Already, members of the law enforcing agencies took part in the election area. There will be 12 people in the general polling station and 15 members in the important center will be deployed by the law enforcers.
According to the sources, 3 to 381 people in the polling station and 231 in the mobile team and 132 in the striking force are deployed. At the risky polling centers, 12 out of 95 centers have 1,140 people. In addition, 32 ordinary Ansar members in 32 centers, 33 battalion Ansar in Striking Force / Mobile Team, 180 Armed Police Battalion (APBN) and 420 Border Guard Bangladesh members (BGB) law and order; Do the duties to protect.
In MCC 33 general wards, 242 people and 70 wards in reserved ward 11 wards are contesting. There will be an opportunity to apply voting rights to 830 polling centers in 127 polling stations, two lakh 96 thousand 934 voters.
According to the schedule of the 12th and last elections of the country, the last date for submission of nomination papers was on April 8, the nomination paper was scrutinized on April 10, the last date for withdrawal of candidacy was April 17, the symbol was allocated on 18 April.
Meanwhile, MCC will also be held in Barura upazila of Comilla, Trishal upazila of Mymensingh and Aditmari upazila of Lalmonirhat on Sunday. Only the chairman posts in Jaldhaka upazila of Nilphamari and Chhatak upazila of Sunamganj will be held in the by-election for the post of chairman of Singchapir Union Parishad (UP).
